Fingering Weight Yarn.

Potluck Yarn author and Cherry Tree Hill founder Cheryl Potter went to Peru this spring to source fair trade yarns and teach innovative handpaint techniques. Her articles will begin to appear in Co-operative Press's new online magazine beginning in September. The first one is called "Finding Fair Trade Artisan Yarn in the Heart of Peru."

Cheryl's focus while in Peru was to teach a shifting shades handpaint technique in which 50-60 yards per color is painted onto one hank of yarn. For this new technique which she calls Broad Band as opposed to self striping, she chose Supersock Silk Fingering yarn as a base. You get standard handpainted Cherry Tree Hill Colorways you know and love only each hue in the colorway stretches 50 yards rather than the one you expect in a colorway and the two to three yards you get in a Cherry Tree Hill handpainted self stripe. The hanks are 354 yards of an 80% Superwash Merino / 20% Mulberry Silk yarn, enough for scarves, lacy shawls, wraps and more. Listed below are the handpainted colorways Cheryl taught at a fair trade co-operative in Peru. These yarns will be available in 2014. A lucky few of you will get a chance to purchase them during the Labor Day Sale. We only have 2 matched hanks of of each colorway from the sample set.
